How nice it is that people like Aad and Esther from Go2Piemonte exist. They put together a week for us in which we cycled an average of 50 km per day from hotel to hotel, in the most breathtaking places. Beautiful routes, along mountains and valleys, over passes and sometimes even through the clouds… past thousands of hazelnut trees and past so many vineyards, half of which had already been picked this season and the other half still had to get the sun on their skin… Met lovely open people both in cities (Aqui Terme, Alba) and in the countryside. The truffle hunters with their adorable dogs with sand still on their noses, who proudly conjured a handful of truffles from his pocket as if they were diamonds. The mushroom hunter who walked into the restaurant in Roccaverano with a large box full of orange delicacies and modestly had his picture taken, because he was in a hurry. The family at a large table where we heard that mother and father were the longest married and therefore the most famous couple in Italy, had made a television appearance and mother who had to reveal the mystery of a long happy marriage and had no idea what to say. Everyone burst out laughing again! We had the most beautiful conversations with hands and feet. We got to know the Italians as kind, warm and open-hearted they can be. A real gift. As cyclists you always have attention from your surroundings and the motorists let you go first with all the respect. What a great adventure we have experienced; suitcases always in the lobby when we arrived somewhere again, warm welcomes and in many cases a delicious kitchen (Fabio, the chef who also cooked for the Olympic Games) and of course wonderful wines (especially the local celebrity Arneis caught our attention, you could taste the chalk and the raw soil of the Piemonte) Adventures don’t exist that much anymore these days, We have the feeling that we have experienced an old-fashioned adventure again on our excellent fat tire bike with smooth stepless gears, and that is something that has been so inspiring. We will definitely go again!
